As co-founder of the Institute for Spatial Thinking I am pleased to announce scholarships for twelve Swiss students to attend “Art of Survival” Summer School at Bosco Colto Campus 2025, Caltagirone, Sicily, from 31.07 – 10.8.2025.
We will designing and build an “overnight shelter”, which we call BASE.

BASE is inspired by a law, common in various countries and depicted in Vittorio De Sica’s film Il Tetto (1956), which stated that if someone managed to build a house overnight, they could claim the right to inhabit it. Rooted in the concept of architecture as a practice of survival, BASE challenges participants to design and construct a shelter that can be assembled in a single night.
Guided by simplicity and informed by traditional building techniques, the workshop aims to rethink the foundations of architecture—interweaving tradition and innovation to create livable spaces under emergency conditions.
Bosco Colto Campus explores a transversal field of creativity where architecture, art, photography, video, design techniques, writing, communication, and gastronomy intersect, experimenting with different ideas and materials through self-construction. By activating a site-specific strategy, it develops various forms of engagement with the place across its different dimensions: local communities, landscapes, nature, history, and economy.
Project supported by IKEA FOUNDATION SWITZERLAND and in collaboration with MAKRME'.APS.
