TRANSFORMING SPACE. Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK)

2022

At first glance, it seems paradoxical: it is precisely the possibilities of location-independent working or learning that promote discourse on spatial issues. This is where the "CAS Transforming Space" comes in: The course is oriented towards current challenges of the built environment, which are at the intersection of spatial design, social change and digital transformation. The participants see themselves as agents of spatial transformation.

According to the reflections of the French sociologist Henri Lefebvre, space is thus constantly "produced" anew. As a culturally formed phenomenon, space is shaped, imagined, conceived; space is perceived, experienced, remembered and narrated. The participants of the CAS explore different categories of spatial knowledge, learn about new tools and technologies and can apply targeted strategies for designing, changing or mapping space to address complex spatial transformation projects professionally. Through a transformation of the working environment, artistic interventions, participation processes, and development of new services or entrepreneurial initiatives.
