Hic et Nunc: Die Besten 2017! Hochparterre Golden Rabbit Goes to Our a Design Education Impact Project in a Zurich Refugee Camp.

What Design can do, here and now?
Ask a straightforward question, take students to a refugee camp, invite them to find out. Invent, develop, execute, adjust, repeat- and win the “Best of Design Switzerland 2017” organized by Hochparterre.
Hic et Nunc is a latin imperative motto that expresses the urgency of  the “here and now.” With this attitude, students were asked what “design can do?” and were left to find out the answers during a three weeks workshop, with almost no budget, in a refugee camp in Zurich.
Hic et Nunc aims at challenging the skills that a design student acquires in school and confront them with the harsh reality of a refugee camp to teach “design impact” where it is most needed.
Hic et Nunc is an interdisciplinary design BA course at ZHdK, run with Karin Sailer, Martin Bölsterli, and Martin Feuz, in cooperation with AOZ, and the technical support of Doka (CH) and Ikea (CH). Students work, here.
